I'd like to start by saying I love NYX Cosmetics. They are affordable, quality and have a huge ever expanding line of products. My favorite NYX product that I've used so far is their Soft Matte Lip Creams. I have 10 of them and plan to eventually own them all (and swatch them to share these lovelies with the rest of you. I went to kindergarten I know how to share).
In this post I am sharing the bright, vibrant, barbie aesthetic color; Addis Ababa. It's named after the capital city of Ethiopia (don't say I never taught you nothin'). I love this color. I love it so hard.
This is the perfect pick-me-up pink lip color that I think everyone needs; it's a blue based cool neon pink. I love blue based pink colors if you hadn't noticed from my other posts. It's a smooth creamy consistency that dries to matte after being applied. The coverage is buildable, but it's very near opaque so you don't have to keep layering it on for max color potential. I don't find these lip creams to be drying, personally. I try to take care of my lips by moisturizing with whatever lip balm is within arms reach (and usually where ever I am in my house, there's a lip balm, bobby pink or hair tie withing arms reach at any given moment) and using a lip scrub.
If you want a post about lip care and how to get the most out of your matte lippies, give me a comment about it and I'll get to it.
The wear time on these lip creams were a very pleasant surprise. Some slightly stain your lips; or skin anywhere else for that matter. By the time I'm done swatching and taking photos my thighs and arms look like I've broken out in hives. Very pretty assorted color hives, but hives nonetheless. The minor staining works in your favor in terms of longevity of wear with this creams. Once the initial application of product is put on, I've gone almost full work days without retouching my color; which
I think is pretty damn impressive, especially for a $6 lip cream.
Totally gonna get a scholarship to art school for that 1st pic. |
Since I am such a fan of this blue based pink, I would like to share some possible dupes with you as well. This color in and of itself isn't terribly original, I just consider it a summer time staple color so many companies have done similar versions. The NYX would be the cheapest option of course, but maybe you have a higher-end lippie and now you can see you can get a similar shade for cheaper.
The consistency and matte-ness or non-matte-ness of these other products varies, but the color is what I had in mind when making this list. These are not exact dupes, just very similar colors.
The more pricey options are:
1.The raved about color of Candy Yum Yum by MAC.Now a permanent color. Very similar and also matte. Retails around $16
2. A vegan, cruelty free option from OCC (Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics) is their Nylon Lip Tar. Retails around $18. Satin-Matte finish. I'll be doing a post on the lip tars I have as well because they over exceeded any exceptions I had about a tube of lip color.
The drugstore dupes:
1. Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids collection. Electric Fuchsia. Not matte. Retails around $7.49
2. Maybelline. Fuchsia Flash. Not matte. In limited edition collection. Retails for the same, around $7.49.
I love finding and hearing about dupes for any product, if you know of any more for this or any other NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream be sure to leave me a comment and I'll be sure to check it out!
